Alexander achieved so many accomplishments during his lifetime. He had great military success. Alexander was a man that took chances, and these chances proved to be the most memorable. The tasks that he completed and the ideas that he made change the world. He develop Macedonia into a major military power. King Philip also designed new weapons for his mean to use. “ Instead, the Macedonian infantryman’s chief weapon was a long thrusting spear -- 18 feet in length, or twice as long as Greek hoplite’s spear” ( Spielvogel 90). He also took advantage of technological improvements. Another factor that contributed to his military success was that the army and their leaders had a stronger bond between each other. “ After capturing Prince Oxyartes, Alexander married the prince’s daughter, Rhoxana” ( Biography.com 7). Then he defeated King Porus, but he like Porus so he made Porus the king again and won his loyalty and forgiveness. Alexander went eastward to the Ganges, but his army was tired and refused to go any farther. After that Alexander and his army began to head back. They went along the Persian Gulf were a lot of his men fell ill and died. This was hard for Alexander to lose these men, but he had another important thing to do and that was to connect the Persian nobles and the Macedonians to form a ruling class. He then married Macedonians and Persian princesses. This was something that had to be done in order to help keep power over the Persians. While Alexander was thinking of taking on Carthage and Rome he had become ill. He died in June of 323 B.C.E., he was only thirty- two years old. No one really know why he died. “ Historians have debated the issue for centuries, attributing it to poison, malaria, typhoid fever or other maladies”( EyeWitness 1).After his death the empire he fought so hard for collapsed and the nations battled for power.
