There are millions of people in the United States that suffer from dementia, but there is no cure. The article “Time-Travel Therapy” by Amanda Kolson Hurley explores a recent therapeutic treatment for dementia patients that is relevant to today's society, and could change how society uses the treatment for other purposes. The treatment discussed in “Time-Travel Therapy” is a faux 1950s town called Glenner Town Square inside a San Diego warehouse. This idea was created by the George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Care Centers. The town is made out of twenty-four buildings that include a pet store, a library, and a diner. The Glenner Town Square took reminiscence therapy to a whole new level. Reminiscence therapy is taking photographs and music to help dementia patients recall their past. (29) The Apple Company is one corporation similar to the Glenner Town Square because Apple took the simple cell phone and made it into a iPhone that has changed the way society uses cell phones forever. The Glenner Town Square will be completed in 2018. Soon after that it wouldn’t be a surprise if there would be more Glenner Town Squares popping up all over the country. The Glenner Town Square idea could also be used for other things, like museums, or schools. Museums could use it to show their customers how places looked back in any time period, and schools could use the idea to create an interactive learning environment. The previous first lady Michelle Obama, even made it one of her main objectives to prevent obesity among children. Children are prone to becoming obese because of all the sugar and fat in foods that taste good, but are not healthy. It is also easier to go to a fast food restaurant to eat instead of cooking a meal. Children also consume most of their time by playing with electronics. Video games, computers, and mobile devices are used to fill free time instead of riding a bike, playing kickball with the neighbors, or jumping rope.
