Everyone has a hero inside them, even the dangerous criminals who do unheroic acts. Not one single person in this enormous globe could be so cruel to not do anything nice for just once in their span. Ordinary people who live everyday lives can also be heroes. Being a hero does not mean having powers or a fancy costume. Anyone can be a hero. From low-class criminals to the A-list celebrities. A hero is someone who is admired by doing great acts, especially when they do it out of their own good will. They have traits, or qualities, that make them stand out and are often admired because of them. Heroes are not cruel, selfish, or uncaring people. Being caring can save more lives than what many think. It makes the people who need saving know they have a chance. In “And of Clay We Are Created,” Rolf Carle is a hero to Azucena even though he is unable to save her. He is caring to her to protect her from the emotion that could haunt her and kill her. Azucena is struck in mud and Rolf Carle tries his very best that he even get frustrated that he could not free Azucena. He is caring enough to stay awake all night so she could get sleep and not be scared with the fact that he might leave her. “From time to time she dozed, but he kept talking in the darkness, to assure her that he was still there and to overcome the menace of uncertainty” (Allende 44). He stays awake all night, talking to her to tell her that he is still there and he is not going to leave her any second during her sleep. He is caring enough to do that because if he did not care, that he would probably left her alone in the dark. He is obviously concerned about her as he cares about her a lot that he becomes very angry that he could not find a way to rescue her. “The child’s every suffering hurt me as it did him; I felt his frustration, his impotence” (Allende 45). Rolf Carle is caring so much that the suffering of Azucena is making him frustrated and weak. He is a hero because a hero cares about others even when they could not save them. For example, one day, an ordinary person is walking down the street, just minding their own business. But then, they see a cat stuck in a tree. That ordinary person could become a hero, just by freeing the cat from the tree. Like, mentioned before, just anyone in the world could be a hero, maybe just for one minute. There is nothing wrong into becoming a hero for just a minute. Having the feeling that you are a hero feels very nice. It can boost self-esteem and make you happy. For example, Jon Meis, a student at Seattle Pacific University, was just an ordinary student who saved his schoolmates from getting killed by a gunman. He is considered a hero. A man dressed in pajamas ran out of his house in flip flops to save a woman in a car in flames, instead of calling 911. He is considered a hero, too.
