Ms. Pritti Poole is the subject of our first video. She is an instructor in 2nd year class and in the video she is giving a math lesson on 2D and 3D shapes where her students use the method “think about, recognize and identify”. She uses a teaching method where she tells her students to talk about them with their peers as well as using an interactive smart board. While teaching the lesson a tool is used called the interactive smart board to display activities for the students to see as she teaches the lesson. Students are also allowed to use a whiteboard to write down answers to the questions she asked during whole group lesson time. Ms. Poole uses transitions phrases so that students knew to respond changes in the instruction, which is …show more content…
There are many different ways that the students are encouraged to gain knowledge, including the use of manipulatives and verbal instruction. The use of small groups strengthens the success of her instruction, as the teacher was able to address each student’s individual needs during the small group instruction. A suggestion that I would make would be to shorten the amount of time used for the large group activity and add it to the small group time. This would allow the teacher to better address the needs of the individual …show more content…
In addition to the cups method, she looks to engage her students by using Making Math Make Sense. While using Making Math Make Sense, she plays a song that is educational in order to allow her students to activate their prior knowledge. Ms. Lee uses a smart board, songs, and an anchor chart all during the lesson. Using these items kept the students very engaged in her lesson. Her students are given the opportunity to take brain breaks to give them time to refresh and reflect before moving on to another part of the lesson. The process of multiple small breaks is a great way to transition students quickly and smoothly in order to keep their attention. She uses open communication to provide a roadmap for the students for the lesson describing the differentiation that some students will work on addition and others on multiplication. This allows her to provide remediation on previous concepts before moving on with harder lessons. Ms. Lee showed great classroom management throughout the lesson. Stays engaged and, by the end, showed an increased understanding of the lesson being taught. Ms. Lee was able to provide a great example of how to administer the instruction of her topic so that her students are engaged and able to apply their prior knowledge to what is being
