The general set up for a problem based course design there is a 5 step phases of creating a course. This is known as the ADDIE model including an analysis, development, design, implementation, and evaluation (Savin-Baden, 2000). In order to maintain the proper design in the class there needs to be sometime of direct instruction. This could be a variation of deliverables from an audio presentation, visual presentation, a combination of both or virtual video. The biggest point it to make sure the context of their instruction to assignment completion is clear. This is a way to explain the assignment not give the results way. The research needs to be completed in order to find the proper answers.

In addition there is a process of learning through the PBL approach this consists of the assessment. The point is to have the previous learning stimulated (Cheaney & Ingebritsen, 2005).
