If The Government Treated Men like Women In the video above created by the user We Are Mitú, six women are presented in this video to try and prove how women aren’t treated as equals by the government. They use examples involving men rather than women to try and get their point across. The point the creators of this video are trying to prove is that women aren’t equal in the eyes of the government. The view of the video’s creator is very biased, they clearly don’t feel it’s right what the government is doing to the women in this world. Through time women have never really been equal in the government's eyes. From the article above, as of 2017 there are 12 states that do not have a tax on feminine hygiene products, “five states—Alaska, Delaware, New Hampshire, Montana, and Oregon—do not have sales tax. Seven states specifically exempt feminine hygiene products—Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.”(Kaeding p.2) In some of these states that exempt tax consider the products to be medical or how in Pennsylvania anything used as a hygiene product such as “toilet paper, sanitary napkins, tampons, or similar items.”(Kaeding p.2) is exempted from tax as well. Growing up and going through life with a monthly period is not a life woman choose to have when growing up. It’s not something that can be turned on and off, it’s something that needs to be taken care of on a monthly basis. For male patients a prostate exam “not covered by health insurance, a prostate cancer test typically costs from less than$15-$250.”(How Much Does a Prostate Cancer Test Cost? p.1) For a woman patient who is an “uninsured patient would pay about $127 to $148.”(How Much Does a Mammogram Cost? p.1) Males who go through this procedure are likely to receive a discount on the test if they are “uninsured/cash-paying patients”(How Much Does a Prostate Cancer Test Cost? p.1) These discounts can be anywhere from 30%- 35% off of the procedure. While women have to go out to “U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.” to find a discount for “uninsured and uninsured women who qualify.” not only do women have to go out and find a specific place to give them a discount but also have to qualify to receive it rather than just being granted the discount like the men
