Objectives The author proposes to review the available literature on how anger intervention programs could be used to educate single mothers and their daughters to function as strong family unit. The music and arts-based intervention program will be created to reduce anxiety and aggressive behaviors in preadolescent and adolescent girls who were being raised without their fathers. In this review, the author will look at the following three objectives:
1) Gain knowledge of the repertoire of techniques and strategies necessary to understand and assess family dynamics and support families effectively.
2) Appraise the impact of divorce on the family system and challenges that may arise when working with single-parent families.
3) Describe strategies for engaging parents in the learning process.
Children being reared with an absent father are seven times more likely to be incarcerated than children in a two-parent household (Barber, 2004). According to Rubin (2008) a longitudinal study has proven 63% of youths who commit suicide, 85% of youth and children with behavioral disorders, and 71% of high school dropouts were being reared without any fathers. Lessons in painting, singing, guitar and keyboard, and dance will be implemented. Such exposures will offer these girls and their single mothers with other options for embracing accomplishments, rather than subjecting themselves to internal rejection and anger. The void of the male model might be compensated or redirected and channeled into positive behaviors. The long-term goal will be for the girls and their single mothers to become empowered with a good sense of self-esteem, thus becoming master of their universe as opposed to being captive to their unresolved and unaddressed
