Thirteen year old Anne Frank with sweat rolling down her face did her best to keep up with her parents. It was early in the morning and her family was pretending to go for a stroll, when in fact they were going into hiding from the Nazi's. She knew this was a live or die matter. Anne was a young German Jewish girl who hid with her family in Nazi Germany and showed extreme bravery in the face of adversity. From the secret annex they were shipped to camp Westerbrok, a concentration camp in northeastern Netherlands. They were there almost a month when they were transferred to Auschwitz death camp in Poland. They arrived on Septemeber 3, 1944. The men and women were then seperated. This was the last time Anne saw her father. Life at the concentration camp was very hard. The women were required to haul heavy stones and had to stand outside for hours, no matter how bad the weather was. In Novemeber 1944, Anne and her sister were moved back to Germany. Their mother was not chosen to go. The Nazis only wanted the strongest. Anne's mother only lasted three months after the girls were transferred. On January 6, 1945 Edith Frank became very ill and died. Anne and Margot was transferred to Bergenbelser in Germany. This camp was overcrowded with some being placed in tents. "In the winter of 1944-1945, the situation at Bergen-Beisen deteriorates. There is little to no food and the sanitary conditions are dreadful. Many of the prisoners become ill.
