Apollo Pharmacy is a local independent pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia (“About Us,” 2016). Apollo Pharmacy outlined strict rules on staff after the need for more patients. However, the staff produced lower job motivation than the national average. Comments recently made on an employee survey disturbed the management. This concern stems from the effects on the business. The improvement of employees’ behaviors relates to the employees’ opinions affecting other staff members (SUO, 2018). Additionally, employees remain a part of a greater whole (SUO, 2018). Thus, employees determine if the business succeeds or fails (SUO, 2018). To improve the pharmacy, a training session was designed based off of the Path-Goal Leadership Theory.
Rationales for the use of the Path-Goal Leadership Theory includes increased effort to make satisfaction of the employees’ needs and behaviors (Hayyat). A business benefits from a complemented work environment through coaching, guidance, support, and rewards (Hayyat). Results of a study on the Path-Goal Theory promote the management's role in employees’ satisfaction through the discussion of compensation, policies, and work conditions (Malik). Even with small positive changes, they increase employees’ effectiveness and input into the organization (Malik).
