Obesity is not a disease
Lee M. Kaplan, M.D., states “The simple fact is that obesity is a disease”, that “…there are many subtypes of obesity, each with different causes, clinical characteristics, and susceptibility to specific therapies. This complexity means that a one-size-fits-all approach is not destined to succeed…”, and while I do agree with these states, they don’t necessarily prove or show why obesity should be considered a disease. Sure, obesity has become a growing epidemic, since 28.3 % of adults (18 and over) are obese in the United States alone (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services CDC). I know that obesity shouldn’t be categorized as disease, because it just doesn’t fit into the description of what a disease is. In fact the only genuine definition of obesity is given by Mayo Clinic, and they don’t even define it as a “disease”, they define it as “a complex disorder involving an excessive amount of body fat”, it also states that being obese increases your risk of disease and other problems. The only disease that I know of, that can cause another disease from it is HIV and AIDS.

At one point in his journey, Hurt was informed that his father has Pancreatic Cancer.
