“Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the Majority opinion of the Supreme
Court ruling on same-sex marriage. LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) couples face discrimination when trying to adopt children and make a family. The primary opponents are religious groups that claim the law should conform with their faith. These religious advocacy groups have created multiple obstacles for same-sex couples trying to adopt. Such groups launch homophobic campaigns against these individuals and their families. Although many activist groups constantly fight for equal rights, there is still a very long road ahead for same-sex couples …show more content…

This is due to the fact that one of the parents could have no legal standing with their child, depending on what state they are in. These are prime examples of how bias and prejudice have severely polluted American government, and how law makers can openly defy religious liberty with their privilege of Christianity. In order to form a family, it is necessary that there is uniformity in the laws concerning LGBT parental rights, rather than a mosaic of mismatched laws based on regional bias. The rights of LGBT Americans are being suppressed when they are denied freedom when trying to adopt a child.
Being that America is constitutionally democratic, rather than theocratic, religion should not be a factor in issuing laws that directs affect the rights of Americans. February of 2018,
Georgia’s legislative and executive branches passed a bill to “keep faith in adoption and foster care.” (Georgia General Assembly) This act allows adoption agencies to turn away LGBT couples. Elected officials in America cannot accurately represent all Americans if the govern based on religion. Straight lawmakers have been given every go ahead to dictate the lives of the
