Equal rights for LGBT couples have been an ongoing heated debate, especially in the past ten years. The most popular debate is if gay couples should be aloud to get married, which everyone has their own opinion on the topic. Although there is not a lot of public news about whether or not same-sex couples should be able to adopt children, it is another major topic on controversy. Some people that belong to certain religions or have specific beliefs think that gay couples should not be able to adopt children whatsoever. A reason behind people being against gay couples adopting children is as simple as these people believe the family will fail without a male and female role model present, even though some that believe that also think a single parent is more suitable for adoption than a loving couple just because they are homosexual. A couple looking to start a family, whether they are straight or gay, is better than a child in a foster care system. People are willing to deny children chances to be apart of a family and have them stay in foster homes than to have them be adopted by a suitable LGBT couple. There are so many children that need homes and families. There is currently around 114,000 children that are living in foster care and living their lives without ever being apart of a family and those numbers would be drastically different if gay adoption wasn’t such a controversy. Although it has been researched by a psychologist at Clark University, that same-sex parents “tend to be more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents.” Also children that have been raised by same sex couples have been proven to have a more open mindset to new things and have more compassion than a child raised in a “normal” heterosexual household, although there is no counter argument saying children raised in a straight household have bad childhoods and are not
