That fact that the atomic bomb had to be dropped at all is a shocking fact to accept. In the modern era, it is challenging to understand the sentiments of America's leaders during that time period. The passages "A Petition to the President of the United States," "The Decision to Drop the Bomb," and "Speech to the Association of Los Alamos Scientists" illustrate the thought process of American citizens and the government very effectively. They each go into the miniscule details in order to assist the readers in understanding what compulsion the government had to drop the bomb, and how civilians reacted to this. It is due to passages like these that people in the modern day can continue to acknowledge America's past and decisions.
The creation of the atomic bomb in 1945 marked the beginning of a new era. As Japan was surrounded by U.S. forces, the U.S. issued the Potsdam Declaration, defining terms for Japanese surrender. However, Japan did not surrender. Thus, U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing many civilians. Three days later, the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, ultimately leading to a Japanese surrender, essentially ending World War II.
JFK once said, " Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind." In 1939 Albert Einstein had written the US president of the potential to build a nuclear weapon. The US entrance into the war on December 7th of 1941 led to the president creating the Manhattan Project in 1942 where the atomic bomb was developed. On August 6th of 1945 US president Truman ordered the bombing of Hiroshima using the atomic bomb, 3 days later he ordered a second bomb to be dropped in Nagasaki. The US was justified in using the atomic bomb to end WWII because, America's technology was their greatest achievement, during the time of war death is inevitable, and Japan ignored all warnings given by America.
In the debate “Nuclear Weapons is the best invention ever made”, it is stated that, “The only time that nuclear weapons have ever seriously been used was back in WWII against Japan” (Article 2). The bombs were dropped on two of Japan's major cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which were both centers of military production and transportation. The destruction of these cities had a profound impact on Japan's ability to continue the war, as it disrupted the country's ability to produce weapons and supplies. The bombing also sent a clear message to Japan and the rest of the world that the United States possessed a devastating new weapon and was willing to use it. This served to deter other countries from pursuing nuclear weapons and helped to establish the United States as a dominant military power in the post-war
It was created in the Los Alamos laboratory by J. Robert Oppenheimer. The atomic bomb is terrifyingly accessed in India, Pakistan, Israel, North Korea, France, China, Russia, and Great Britain. The atomic bomb is a disgrace to the inventions of the world and should have never been created because it has brought fear and hatred into our country. The slightest accident could be mean more lives lost.
August 6, 1945 American Bomber B-29 dropped the atomic bomb over Hiroshima, Japan, changing the lives of both Americans and Japanese forever. To this day the question still remains, how should we remember the dropping of the atomic bomb? America was right to drop the atomic bomb, and by doing so it end a major world conflict. Without the atomic bomb, the war could have dragged on for many more years, causing more innocent people to die, In “Thank God for the Atomic Bomb” a soldier said, “On Okinawa, only a few weeks before Hiroshima, 123,000 Japanese and Americans killed each other. War is immortal.
"Nobody actually wants to cause the destruction we caused, but it was through a necessity rather than a wanton type of destruction. It was something that had to be done…” was said by Sergeant Robert H. Shumard, the assistant flight engineer of the Enola Gay. Shumard dropped the bomb Little Boy, so he was able to see the damage done to the city of Hiroshima. When he says this, he is meaning that they did not want to destroy the city or cause the deaths of so many innocent people, they thought it was something that had to be done in ending the war. President Truman was not in office for very long before he had to make a huge decision for the nation.
President Harry S. Truman on August 6, 1945 released a statement in regard to America’s use of the atomic bomb at Hiroshima, Japan. Seventeen years later President John F. Atomic Bomb Essay “The people who preferred invasion to A-bombing seemed to have no intention of proceeding to the Japanese front themselves. I have already noted what a few more days would mean to the luckless troops and sailors on the spot.... On Okinawa, only a few weeks before Hiroshima, 123,000 Japanese and Americans killed each other. War is immoral. War is cruel.”
My dear friends, as I stood there watching the blinding light of the Trinity test, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and dread. We had done it, we had unleashed the power of the atomic bomb onto the world. And with this, we have become something more, something greater than ourselves. With the blinding flash of light, the mushroom cloud rising up into the sky, I know that nothing would ever be the same again. The Trinity test was successful, and we have just unleashed the power of the atomic bomb onto the world.
The controversy surrounding the American decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan has been a spot of sore debate since the post-war period, henceforth remaining shrouded in quarrel to this day. On August 15th, 1945, President Truman sanctioned the use of the worlds first atomic weapon, decimating the city and population of Hiroshima, and only days three days later, the second was dropped on Nagasaki. The official narrative taught regarding the decision to drop the bomb, since the advent of it, and the post-war period, has been that American command brought a swift end to the war against Japan by forcing the enemy into surrender with the sheer brutality of the bomb, and hence, avoiding a full-scale land invasion of mainland Japan, ultimately saving countless American lives. However, historians
There is high controversy over whether or not it was acceptable for the United States to use the atomic bomb, in my opinion I feel as though it was our right to use it, but not in this situation. Many people would agree or disagree with this statement, and yet some would still have other opinions. There is no right or wrong opinion, but some have better intentions than others. Was it acceptable for the United States to use the atomic bomb? I believe that it was, but maybe the world just wasn’t ready for something that held that much power.
