Also, I would like to one day take part in a research study at my facility in order to contribute to the advancement of the nursing field. A project was made to elicit the opinions of members of AORN of Central Ohio regarding Ohio's BSN-in-10 initiative. Participants valued higher education, but were not informed about the need for more BSN-prepared nurses. They also were not aware of the professional and financial effects of obtaining a baccalaureate degree, the available resources to assist them in obtaining one, or collaborative nursing association partnerships that advocate for BSN-in-10 legislation. Also, I will gain more responsibility and learn more leadership skills throughout my time in ASB. As part of ASB, I will be able to work with other students who have similar interests and want to be fellow leaders at Medea.
As I anticipate my future with NSCS, I can predict that the outcome will be positive. Prospectively, the most important thing I can accomplish from NSCS is leadership. Leadership is having integrity and showing versatility in communities, work environment, school and home. It also extends beyond having influence on others and in fact it is a characteristic not possess by everyone. However, it is achievable and with consistent effort, knowledge and most importantly confidence; leadership and success will be attainable.
Personal Statement Statement 1: Why am I striving for a BSW? During my teens, as a young Hispanic male, I found myself accepting the negative stereotypes of Hispanics, and began associating with other Hispanic youth who had also accepted the negative stereotypes. As time went on several of these individuals, including one of my closest childhood friends had passed away due to gang violence, and many more wound up incarcerated.
Being a social worker is a career that I have contemplated from an early age. Unlike many who were inspired by social workers in their families, I was urged by my family to be a part of the medical field. For them, a career is simply something that provides financial stability. However, a career to me, is means to enrich your life and others as well. When I came upon the career of social work, I knew that I had found a way to channel the compassion that I had for others into actively working to lessen their burdens.
