I once heard a man joke saying that, "If you are not the lead dog, the scenery never changes." This may sound like a weird saying but underneath it holds a light to some truth. This light showing that you either initiate change and lead the 'pack' with a vision ahead of you or you follow those who have the vision and initiated the change. It's a persons unimpeded choice weather they want to be a leader and create change to alter the world or a follower and trail behind to the destination. I decided long ago that I wanted to the kind of person who went out and showed people a better way, who began things to modify the earth for the better. Ever since then I have strived for opportunities to expand my knowledge and have done things to help me …show more content…
This attitude has lead me to achieve awards and a status of scholastic distinction among my peers. In 6th grade my three friends and I were the 1st place winning team for the annual Battle of the Books at my Middle School in Grand Haven. I have earned both the Bronze and Silver Award in Girl Scouts and I'm currently working toward the Gold Award. I have been an all A student for my entire schooling career. Upon moving to Ludington my 7th grade year, I was selected to be a mentor in 8th grade to help with the new and incoming students to OJ DeJounge Middle School which lead me to become a member of the 2015 MMLI or Michigan Middle School Leadership Initiative team. I went to a camp in the fall with 9 other classmates and we learned many new and valuable skills on leadership, communication, and cooperation to help us decide on something we wanted to change and teach us how we could achieve it. Upon our return we spent the rest of the year working on and implementing our goal. My desire to learn and use my knowledge has gone beyond School. I have participated in Math Counts my 7th and 8th grade years competing at West Shore, and was awarded a scholarship of a free math class at West Shore, and my 8th grade year on the team for regionals and I have been on the JV Quiz Bowl team for my freshman and sophomore …show more content…
Drewey at the Veterinary Medical Center and for Matt Ewing at Ludington Paint and Glass. I wanted to earn some money for college along for the trip to Europe I'm planning on going on with my Girl Scout friends and upon talking to them at my church they both offered me to come and clean at their place of work which I still do. Between work and school I like to help people out. I've played Clarinet for the Pep Band for the basketball games since 8th grade and I try my hardest to attend every game we play for. Since I moved to ludington I have helped out my church's DR team at various fundraisers weather it's helping make over 500 pies in one day or helping out at the fair concession stand or ticket booth every year. Around the end of October my mother was asked if she would like to help out in the Gems program. She declined because Wednesday was worship team practice but asked me if I wanted to help out in her place. I accepted and became a CIT for Gems. Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday I help keep track of all the girls, help out in the small groups, with games and crafts, and I help clean up at the end. I plan to continue helping with Gems, my church's DR team, and the various community service events I do with Girl Scouts to fill my required service hours for the National Honors
