1. During my years at Franklin and Washington Schools, one of the fundamental lessons we learned was to be kind, respectful, and helpful to others. As a result, I have tried to live my life in a manner that would reflect those values. In high school, I became involved in activities that would serve both my fellow students and my community. As an SHS tutor, mentor, and member of the National Honor Society, I have assisted other students both socially and academically and have tried to be a positive role model for younger students. I have also been very active in Key Club and have participated in many positive community service projects. Furthermore, I have volunteered for the United Way’s Feed the Children Program as well as Habitat for Humanity. However, I have spent the most time volunteering and later becoming a counselor at YMCA Camp Benson. Over the last few years, I have met and helped hundreds of campers, including groups of children facing a variety of challenges such as blood disorders, autism, cancer, and poverty. Seeing the world through their eyes taught me to appreciate what others have been through in their lives. This was a significant lesson because it allowed me to more fully understand these campers and to better meet their needs. My goal with all of these campers was to serve as a positive role model, to assist in their social, physical, and emotional development, and to instill in them the camp’s core values.
