I grew up in a school where sports are valued above education. I grew up in a community where dreams are lost. I grew up in a town oblivious to the world around it. One could say that my high school was “sports based”, as in academics came second in relation to football or volleyball. In addition, clubs lacked members and funding, and the arts program was nearly nonexistent. It appears to me that Beloit College truly values education. As a liberal arts college, Beloit offers a plethora of, not only academic interests but also personal. With so many options, I have no idea where to begin as I have never been exposed to so many new opportunities and because of my background, I find that it may be difficult to maintain my GPA, keep up in a fast-paced environment, balance my finances, or even …show more content…
Beloit College is able to provide me with the resources I need to be successful. The faculty recognize the strengths and weaknesses of the students on campus and tailor their resources to those needs so everyone can have the best experience both in class as a student and in their future endeavors as alumni. To make the most of my experience, I will need to take advantage of the resources and opportunities offered to me. I need to remember to set reasonable and attainable goals so that I stay on track to following my dreams, rather than to forget like many people in my hometown. As stated on their website, Beloit College “places a high premium on individuality”. Students and faculty come from a myriad of ethnic, religious, social, geographic, and academic backgrounds. The campus follows a preferred name policy as to include individuals of any gender identity, whereas my high school had nothing in place to assist members of the LGBT+ community.
