Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Model
An overview of the interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) model is a healthcare model that highlights collaboration and communication among healthcare professionals. An IPCP model improves health outcomes. An example of an IPCP model is the team-based care model. Mitchell et al., (2012) described this model as a delivery of healthcare services to individuals by various healthcare providers who engage patients as participants in their care to achieve mutual goals and provide excellent collaborative care (p. 5). Participants of different health professions working together in a collaborative model can enhance teamwork that ultimately benefits patient outcomes. Implementing tools such as transparency, relationship-building skills, and ongoing training can accomplish impactful results that one individual alone might not be able to accomplish (White-Williams & Shirey, 2022, p. 5). An IPCP model provides enhanced patient outcomes, increased productivity, and better communication among healthcare professionals. Robertson et al., (2023) stated an IPCP model could allow improved work-life balances for interprofessional teams (p. 37).
