W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington were two great leaders of the black community in the late 19th and 20th century. They both had the same intent with their thought but they came from two different backgrounds so it was hard for them to have agreement. Booker T. Washington spent his early childhood in slavery. W. E. B. DuBois grew up both free and in the North. Ergo, he did not experience the harsh conditions of slavery or of southern prejudice he grew up with white Americans and even attended predominately white schools.
Booker T. Washington was born as a slave in Virgina. William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B) DuBois was born a free man in Massachusetts. Despite the differences in how they were raised, they both wanted to try and improve the way African Americans were treated in society. Washington gave a speech called the Atlantic Compromise, and DuBois wrote an Article/essay called The Talented Tenth. Both of these written works outlined the author's position on race.
Who do you believe has a more effective philosophy for African-Americans, W.E.B DuBois or Booker T. Washington? W.E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington were African American leaders between 1890 to 1915. They both helped change the course of equality for African Americans. They both had different opinions and ways of doing so, though. Between W.E.B DuBois and Booker T. Washington, W.E.B DuBois had a better strategy because he was one of the founders of the NAACP, led the Niagara Movement, and he helped give education for blacks.

Washington knows how to overcome challenges through hard work, which is another reason why his philosophy is better than W.E.B. Dubois. Booker T. Washington was able to overcome the dumb slave stereotype when he went to school, while it wasn't common for African Americans to go to school. While W.E.B DuBois went to school, he was able to get a scholarship and was able to go to an all-black school. For example, in 1872 Booker T Washington had the opportunity to go to Tuskegee Institute but didn't have the money to pay, but since he knew how to overcome challenges through hard work, he worked as a cleaner to pay it off. "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that, one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed."
After looking at both Booker T. Washington and W.E. B. Dubois, I feel that Booker T. Washington had the best solution and best route for his solution for the black community. He was raised a salve and new first hard the lifestyle a majority of the blacks were coming from. He knew the frustrations that they had and knew how to deal with the situations. He was extremely educated just like W. E. B. Dubois, and he understand that change would take time. He knew that many whites would not change their opinions over night and that it would take a long time to get what all black deserved.
His plans are better than Dubois because instead of having a faster and more violent approach he is showing society that blacks can be civil and educated
Booker T. Washington believed that in order to eventually achieve racial equality African
Booker T. Washington believess that African Americans should be proficient in manual labor before even considering the possibilities of political positions or equal rights, on the other hand, W.E.B
W.E.B DuBois’ plan was smarter than Booker T. Washington’s because DuBois’ plan was to fight for the rights of African Americans, and give people a good and equal education. Booker T Washington’s plan was to ignore segregation and discrimination so he can just focus on the wealth and education of former slaves to win over the whites acceptance. One part of DuBois’ plan was the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP. This Association was one of the most influential civil rights organization. It “focused on legal strategies designed to confront the critical civil rights issues.”.
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois’s views are completely different when it came down to fighting for African American rights. Washington felt that African Americans needed to work hard to earn their basic human rights to show the whites that they were worthy of being treated equally. On the other hand, DuBois thought that African Americans were being robbed from being treated like a regular human being just because of the color of their skin. That's why in DuBois’s speech he demands something to be done about it, and he doesn’t do it in a way as of asking. He tells the whites to act right and if not the African Americans weren’t going to turn to violence but they weren’t going to sit back patiently waiting like Washington.
“It is at the bottom of life we must begin, not the top.” Booker T. Washington’s philosophy was that African Americans should accept segregation. Born on April 5, 1856 in Virginia, Washington. Was 9 when slavery ended. Before going to school, he worked in salt and coal mines for 6 years.
It was there he experienced the Jim Crow laws and began to analyze the problems of American discrimination. William Du Bois philosophy on race was different compared to educator Booker T. Washington(Booker). They did not come to terms with a significant amount of topics, had different ideas on progressivism, yet still were able to merge their ideas to help Blacks gain equal rights. W.E.B. Dubois and Booker T. Washington had one of the biggest rivalries in the 20th century. They were both accomplished scholars and activists, but it was their differences in black progress and background that shaped blacks’ communities’ future.
If I am successful in being selected for the graduate program, I hope to gain knowledge in the fields of insurance, international business, organizational behavior, strategy, operations and management. I feel that I am the best candidate because I’m a very motivated worker and although I’m new to the world insurance, I’m not new thinking strategically and analytically. During my time interning at Young & Rubicam, I realized how much strategic thinking and planning went into marketing and I’m excited by the prospect of bringing this same level of thinking and enthusiasm to this new opportunity. Therefore, I believe this position is a great fit for me. There are a lot of reasons which attracted me towards the graduate program such as exposure in different departments, and the opportunity to gain exposure in the London office.
