When tragedies occur people go to social media sites specifically Facebook and Twitter in order to get up to the minute information about the event. The objective of this research project is to figure out why more people go to social media sites instead of television for up to the minute news about events.The places where people get their news about tragedies when they occur is usually go to social media networks because social media sites give you more up to the minute information about what has happened. However sometimes like it was in 2013 with the Boston Marathon Bombing as information spread about the events that have occurred much of the information that was being leaked was just rumors or misinformation. The setting of the information about the Boston Marathon Bombing was coming from the television news crew from various stations at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon where two bombs went off. Information about the event which circulated on twitter during the aftermath of the bombings turned out to be false. However even though some of the information that social media sites receive about events was false. Social media sites are still a relatively new concept to the technological world so it is predictable that the information they receive is incorrect. The Importance of these stats about why people use Facebook more then twitter to get news about events is because it shows how reliant people are about using social media sites while getting news.
