So, Slade did not freeze because he knows how to survive in the cold. Last but not least, Baumer did not force Slade to drink the wood alcohol. Even though Baumer was not sitting right next to Slade, Baumer knew that Slade would drink the poison. This goes back to my first argument when Baumer says,”He can’t even read.” Baumer knew that because Slade would steal the alcohol and not read the label, Slade would drink the poison.
They thought he froze to death, but then with further investigation, they found an empty bottle of wood alcohol next to Slade. Mr. Baumer bought wood alcohol and left it for Slade. Knowing that Slade is an alcoholic, and he can’t read, Mr. Baumer intentionally gave it to slade and Slade just drank it just thinking it was normal whiskey. Now people may not believe this and say that Mr. Baumer is not responsible for Slade’s death, but in the story, it says, “ The barrel was the last thing to go in… and I said, Mr.Baumer, we will never sell all of this.” This is the point in the story where Al (Mr. Baumer’s associate) figures out that Mr. Baumer just bought wood alcohol to kill Slade!
In A. B. Guthrie’s story the Bargain, Slade makes consequential choices that ultimately results in his death. A simple yet critical task that Slade does not do is part of repeating history. He will not pay his money due to Mr. Baumer. This is inconsiderate and very much like Slade.
Friar Lawrence guilty of wrongful death? Friar Lawrence is not guilty of wrongful death. He committed no serious crimes, and was not responsible for the tragedies committed by Romeo and Juliet. For it was Romeo who drank the poison, and it was Juliet who forced the dagger through her abdomen. Friar Lawrence did not know Juliet was going to turn the knife on herself after realising Romeo was dead.
If Holmes had not attacked the snake, then he, along with Watson, would have most likely died. Lastly, Holmes should not be held accountable for doctor Roylott’s death because Roylott was a dangerous criminal as described by Sherlock Holmes. “‘Subtle enough and Horrible enough. When a doctor does go wrong he is the first of criminals. He has nerve and he has knowledge”’(128).
Justice Wargrave was the guiltiest of the ten guests invited to the island because he was guilty for the death of Edward Seton. Justice Wargrave is not so innocent himself when he took the 9 nine lives on the island because they committed murders. Justice Wargrave was just as guilty as them, as he had killed a man named Edward Seton. “Lawrence John Wargrave, that upon the 10th day of June, 1930, you were guilty of the murder of Edward Seton” (pg 47). “Hooding his eyes, the judge smiled to himself.
Baumber had ordered a barrel of Wood Alcohol and on the barrel it read DEADLY POISON, slade couldn't read so he wouldn't know that. The barrel look like a liquor barrel but in all reality it was poison. With slade employed under him and baumer having his trust this was his opportunity to execute the plan. He had slade pick up this shipment and bring it back to him, it was a cold night so slade was drinking what he thought was liquor but was poisoned and died with the shipment. The people who found him and brought him and the shipment back to baumer had said that they think he froze to death.
It was Slades fault himself, so release Mr. Baumer, he is
One reason Mr. Baumer is not responsible for slade’s death because he may have accidentally dropped the alcohol, Also, he is guilty because in (pg 246) it says, that “I edged it up and Colly nosed the truck under it, and then I let it fall back.” If he did intentionally let it fall back, no one would know that he did it on purpose. Another reason that Mr. Baumer is not responsible for slade’s death is because he cared
Slade is a bad person and doesn’t go well with this society. He has been stealing and not paying his bills for a very long time and he deserves punishment. Even though he doesn’t deserve to be killed, he willingly killed himself by drinking the poison without being told to, or he died from the extreme cold that he had to deal with during his work. Some might say Mr. Baumer planned everything out to kill Slade with poison, but he could have just died from drinking, from carrying heavy loads, or from being too
After all, Balthasar is the one who tells Romeo Juliet is dead. This causes Romeo’s downward spiral, which ultimately results in Romeo’s death. When she discovers Romeo’s death, Juliet stabs herself. While this may be true, Romeo and Juliet themselves hold the blame for the outcome of what happens. One of the reasons why Romeo and Juliet dies is because they fall in love too quickly.
Many people assume that there is no justice in society, just revenge and hate. The historical fiction story “Bargain” written by AB Guthrie is a story about a German immigrant, Mr.Baumer, and the town Bully, Freighter Slade. Slade is illiterate and has a drinking problem which is why he died by drinking wood alcohol that Mr.Baumer bought. Personally, I believe that Mr.Baumer is innocent, and is not responsible for the death of Slade. His death was an act of Justice as no one liked him as he drank to much.
Bram Stoker, describes one of the verbal taboos of the Victorian era, violence, through the representation of vampires as “monsters” through the point of view of their victims in his novel Dracula. Stoker portrays violence in three distinct categories- physical, visual and psychological. Each one of these categories is described by one of the antagonists in the Novel, with Count Dracula as the physical aspect of violence, his underlings, the female vampires as the visual and Renfield, the patient at Dr. Seward’s mental asylum, as the psychological aspect of violence. This essay looks at the portrayal of such Categorical violence as different renditions of a “monster” and considers why Stoker would segregate violence in such a manner.
“The instinct of self-preservation and the urge to self-destruction are equally strong in man.” (Fyodor Dostoyevsky, 1) The words of Dostoyevsky discuss the juxtaposition between self-preservation and self-destruction, two opposing forces. As with any animals, humans have an intense desire to survive, achieve and succeed; in some cases, individuals will put these desires above all moral judgement. Shakespeare’s writing mirrors many elements of the basic human experience; his play Hamlet accurately depicts the theme of self-preservation.
Though some readers might believe that Friar Laurence is innocent in the death of Juliet, it is clear that Friar Laurence is actually responsible for her death. 1 He gave Juliet the potion and this was his plan. 2 He never told Friar John how important delivering the letter to romeo was. 3
