Ethics are the moral principles that govern how individuals and groups act; they constitute a key facet in identify formation. My employer, a medium-sized Edmonton manufacturing company, espouses and respects the numerous values that are required by your ethical funds investment group. In this response paper, I will discuss the various practices that are implemented to foster an ethical business environment, which have assisted in the growth of a profitable and sustainable enterprise. A key principle in the manufacturing firm is ensuring fair and equal treatment of all employees. Furthermore, to hinder injuries, the company has hired a head-of-safety: this individual is charged with ensuring employees abide by the safety contract signed upon hiring, thereby acting in a safe manner with regards to all manufacturing processes. Environmental degradation is of the utmost concern to our company, and we have therefore implemented numerous environmental procedures to safeguard the environment. Our company purports the ethical doctrine, Corporate Social Responsibility with regards to our policies affecting the environment. An example of our company’s commitment is our purchase of hybrid vehicles for commercial use, investing in geo-thermal energy to heat our buildings, installing solar panels to harvest electricity, having a detailed recycling program in place, and collecting rain water for non-drinking purposes such as watering the lawn. Furthermore, the manufacturing company has hired independent environmental consultants on a semi-annual basis. These consultants will audit operations and ensure that the company is complying with the stringent environmental standards set forth by ISO 14000. Notably, our company has never received any environmental complaints or breaches for dumping hazardous materials into the environment. Regardless, our manufacturing company nevertheless acts in accordance to all the environmental regulations which govern our operations.
