The Chevy 350 is arguably one of the best motors made by GM. Chevy had a good design and even better setup for the Chevy 350. It had a cast iron block with thick cylinder walls making it durable and reliable. But, was the 350 the best motor around? The 350 was an excellent motor for racing, It was light for being cast iron. With the block being cast iron it was strong. That alone proved to be good for a good race motor, seems how you never want to be broken down during the middle of a race. You could make many other performance upgrades and run them repeatedly when other motors would blow up. They have a bulletproof design that was meant to last. Chevy’s 350 was capable of going 300,000 miles without having any serious problems. For a gas motor that is incredible, but it also includes regular maintenance and more upkeep to obtain those miles. There is a contest on who’s motor will last the longest while running at wide open throttle without any coolant. This is not the best idea but there are enough motors out there that we can dispose of a few. Although the Chevy 350 was was reliable, it did have its quirks. They had problems starting in the cold but usually came around to fire up eventually. Valves and rockers arms usually came loose and made a ticking or slight knocking sounds. It was an easy fix, but it stressed owners a lot more than what it should have. They also had a problem with blown head gaskets which would leak air and fuel into the neighboring cylinder. These symptoms came up every so often and were not usually a big deal. Once you compare this motor to others people start to see that the motors stand out for a good reason. They are extremely reliable and well worth any money you use to buy one. The competitors have come close to it, but have never succeeded to surpass
