The Role of the Internet Crime Sherrie Davis Professor Blaine Easterwood CIS170 September 8, 2014 Internet Crimes The internet has aided to criminal activity by providing an increased amount of ways for crimes to be committed anonymously worldwide. The internet has allows us to communicate with others near and far, as well as how spend our free time has changed dramatically. Not only has the internet brought many positives it has brought us many problems as well. Internet has given criminals a new way to commit crimes from anywhere in the world. Phishing involves receiving emails from what seems to legitimate company but its not actually legitimate. Recently Netflix had there financial department hacked where they were telling account holders to update their information so their identity can be stolen. The purpose of this is to get you to login and update your information so they can use it. Once that criminal has your information they are able to steal your money or your identity. Viruses will sometimes install a program that records keystrokes and sends them off to various servers ran by criminals. From that they can decipher your login details for every site you visit aiding them in stealing your identity or your money. These actions are not moral by any means necessary. Mobile devices have made it easier for individuals to carry out behaviors with no remorse for the victims in which these crimes hurt. While people think that its extremely harmless to be on the internet have to be careful because once your information is stolen its hard to regain your privacy or more importantly your identity. The internet has made all countries extremely vulnerable for attacks against one another. It has also made people more vulnerable to have their identity stolen. By taking more precaution in how we communicate in the World Wide
