Portfolio and Class Participation Evaluation
The English 3080 class has taught me so much within every session and is helping me through my academic journey in Cal State East Bay. Throughout the course, I learned all kinds of things from my professor, classmates, and experiences. My contributions to the class itself were from fair to good as I was at first very timid and shy to raise my hand and speak. As time progressed and through the help of my group, I learned that it was okay to speak, even if the answer is wrong, and express my thoughts and analysis of the readings. To study for the quizzes, I would review Parker’s text and also the stories we’re focusing on that week. I would review the theories over and over again, and summarize the story of the week to prepare for quizzes. Sometimes, this study guide worked, but two other times, it didn’t as I learned to study harder on specific theories and really understanding the concepts well. It also didn’t help that I would get too nervous and let that affect my mind. Even though I’m not the best test taker, I always made sure that I understood my mistakes and learned from my peers on what I did wrong. Having that in mind, it helped me prepare for the Midterm. When it came to studying for the Midterm, I studied just like I did for the quizzes, but also, made outlines and thesis statements for the exam. I would make sure I knew which theory I would apply to which story and what element I would want to focus on. Spending a whole day studying for the exam worked in my favor and helped me get a good grade. Although I made mistakes in the test-taking process, I made sure to go back and review them once more not only for the sake of this portfolio, but also to benefit my learning
