Ever since I was seven, it has been my goal to attend college; now that goal will come true in only a few months at the University of Tulsa. While I did not know what I wanted to study then, I developed a passionate curiosity that has allowed me to succeed in school because it gave me a love for learning that continues today. Since then, I have become a dedicated student who is still constantly questioning everything, which has encouraged me to pursue a career as a neuroscientist. My career goal is to get a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with a minor in neuroscience from the University of Tulsa and then to earn a Ph.D. in neuroscience to conduct research. I became fascinated with neuroscience after reading The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons by Sam Kean because it displayed the complicated nature and the vast number of things that can still be studied in the brain that made me initially interested in neuroscience. Through this class, I have spoken on behalf of Union and Tulsa Tech and have been an active participant in Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA). Additionally, I have promoted the Biomed program to administrators from school districts looking to implement PLTW, discussed the benefits I have received through the program to officials in the PLTW company, and convinced Union to make the Biomedical Innovations class weighted like an AP class. Also, I have been an active participant of HOSA for three years and have won the Pathophysiology Knowledge test for the last two years. At the local level, I am secretary for my chapter and coordinate attendance and volunteer hours, complete all necessary documentation, and lead competition preparation.
