I have always interested with the intricacies of mechanical physics, molecular chemistry, and calculus from a very young age. Moreover, my father inculcated in me a love for programming and computer science. As a result, I feel that for my undergraduate studies I should major in engineering. At Georgia Tech, more than half of the undergraduate students and about one-third of the graduate students are enrolled in an engineering course. Thus, Georgia Tech has one of the highest concentrations of like minded individuals that I can hope to encounter in any institution.
Cal Careers, which was chosen as an encore class for many. This specific class consists of many topics such as investing in the stock market, choosing a job, working on budgeting, buying a home, and the egg drop. The stock market was what we mostly focused on. Personally I was able to pick my own stocks which on how popular some companies were in my own view. Knowing what was popular or big in our society helped me figure out what companies to invest in for this project.

I have a gene that codes for my interest to see how and why things work. Now, I would be a poor and misinformed geneticist, but I feel like I did inherit the itch of curiosity from my father. The main source to satiate my curiosity predictably comes from the Internet. According to my browser time tracker, the most informative parts of the Internet for me are Reddit, Youtube, Google Search, TED, and Thingiverse: the 3D object sharing website. While about 50% of internet browsing is spent on writing emails, organizing my calendar, and school work, I love to participate in the internet communities of creating and knowledge.
Time has flown by and sooner than expected it is time to decide what career I want to pursue. I wasn’t sure until a few weeks ago, constantly feeling pressured by those around hoping I was confident about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I’ve changed my mind a million times, thoughts of money, happiness, and success were key factors into my decision, and I only had one college in mind. As I researched around I began to understand what qualifications I needed for not just the degree, but for the colleges as well. Many of my friends are still clueless about what they want to do, but I realize that no one is quite certain, even myself.
Being born and raised in Los Angeles, California, there is no other place in the world that is perfect for me. The people, the weather and the extensive amount of opportunity to pave the way for the next generation of engineers that brews in the hub of Los Angeles is the key to my success as a prospective engineering student. As an aspiring computer scientist at USC with a love for technology, I hope to gain knowledge and perspectives to become a top-tier programmer and work for Google as a software engineer. It was springtime the sun was shining, and the flowers were blooming on this beautiful Friday afternoon. It was my eighth-grade year, I was in my English class, and it was the last period of the day when my teacher asked me to write her an essay explaining what I thought my life would be like in 10 years. In this essay, I described how I wanted to go to college and be a nuclear engineer. I had been inspired by my engineering teacher Mr. Moiso, and nuclear engineering at the time was the highest paying field of engineering. This mindset stuck with me for a very long time as I always thought I would become an engineer and be rich.
I heard computer engineering makes lots of money.” At that time, I had a feeling that my dad wanted me to become an engineer. So, up until this day, I have finally made my decision. My decision right now is to become a doctor in the future. I don’t know what type of doctor I want to become, but I know that I want to go to medical school.
One day I hope to design and create exquisite living and public spaces all over the world. As an Architect I have the ability to do so but there’s a path to get to that point. It would take a lot of my studies, opportunity and the ability to build myself into an efficient person to achieve the goal I desire. I gained so much knowledge, that it would be compared to the size of a bible. In reality my education in the past, current, and future is the bible in itself, it is a guide to proceed to the career of my choice.
In eighth grade, I was given the opportunities that most schools could not offer. I was able to take Spanish 1 a year early, expediting my foreign language credits. This meant I would be able to fit another STEM class in place of my language elective during my junior year. I was also allowed to switch the required typing class with an introduction to engineering class that focused on using Computer Aided Design software known as C.A.D. This class taught me the basic functions of a program that I was able to use during my engineering classes in high school.
Thinking back then, I only view mathematics as a subject where complying was the only thing that matters rather than thinking and appreciating its uses in real world problems. Surprisingly, this course brought me back to reality and engraved an idea, or should I say, a reminder, that what I thought back then was wrong because mathematics itself is one of the reasons for our continuous advancements in life. An example can be seen from our industry wherein the production of goods is now simplified and even faster than how it was before, this is because of the production setups (different mixing tanks) and the existence of machines which were the fruits of sciences and mathematics. My Path of Education Education in this time is one of the most important criteria for the individual and society. The education is the light for our mind and provide the knowledge that will support us in our personal life. If you want to be someone important in the communication, you have to improve yourself through the education. That will impact positively in your career and thinking. One day, group of services companies includes Schlumberger company provided chances to get a job after graduation.
As a twenty one year old recently graduated engineer entering the work place in 2010, I honestly thought that life is good. I have a job, I’m earning decent money and every now and then there will be a promotion on the cards - a sense of entitlement maybe on my part. Only after being in the work place for a few months did I realise that there is no entitlement, the degree got me in the door but hard work is the only thing that will get me promoted. Of course at that stage money was the only driver I had. I then put my head down and worked hard for the next 2 years and before I knew it I was promoted to principal engineer.
