I am currently taking 4 AP classes - Calculus BC, Physics 1, English, and Computer Science and carrying a 4.5 GPA. My test scores rank in the 99th percentile (PSAT 1470 and SAT 1500). I’ve taken an Intro to Databases class at a local community college. Additionally, I taught myself Python using online resources and went on to intern at ThinkTank, where I used my knowledge to create a web scraper. I also volunteer at a Girls Who Code club, where I teach middle school girls how to program in JavaScript. Since I’ve taken challenging courses at high school, I am ready to take the next step in my academic career. Given my rigorous coursework, academic success, and volunteer experience, I am fully prepared to participate in Berkeley’s summer program.

I refuse to yield in the face of challenges, and I always put forth my best effort, regardless if I succeed or fail. Some of my classes can be difficult at times, but I’m always willing to put in the time and effort to succeed. I juggle my heavy academic load with a part-time job and volunteer work. I get home at 7:00 PM on weekdays, and after eating dinner with my family, my tenacity helps me complete my homework and stay on top of my classes. Every day, the trait of tenacity moves me forward, lending me the grit to pursue new learning opportunities. In 8th grade, I taught myself the object-oriented concepts of the programming language Python. With little guidance, I consulted online resources and practiced programming on my own. At the time the idea of programming intrigued me, but I was completely unfamiliar with what it actually entailed.
