I. Introduction
a. Attention Getter: How many here are thinking about transferring? I know I am. After I finish my AA degree, I am planning on transferring to ECU. As of 2014, they have an acceptance rate of about 77.3%. (CollegeSimply. “ECU Admission Chances.”) Which is on the higher side compared to other universities in the state. Anyone thinking about Chapel Hill? Its acceptance rate is only about 26% and that was last year in 2016 (CollegeSimply. "University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Admission Chances.").

b. Reason to Listen: Acceptance to your college of choice is growing increasingly difficult and more competitive each year. For that reason, we as students need to start thinking ahead. We need to improve our chances, and by creating a transcript that stands out you can. It’s not just about grades anymore, that’s only half the battle. Colleges and universities are looking for well-rounded students, and by being involved on campus or in your community it is a great way to becoming one.

For many, student organizations change a person’s outlook on school. By having that support net, a student’s mindset can go from “I have to go to school.” to “I want to go to school.” A powerful quote Mr. Ellen gave in his interview that reflected this idea was “We often find ourselves in the service of others.”
Transition: Many know the benefits of getting involved can do but for many it is an argument of time.
e. Life as a college student is hard, especially here at a community college. We all have lives, we’re busy! Add being a parent, or working a full time job and you barely have any time to live. Adding something extra in like a club or community service can seem like hassle.
i. Many of the clubs consider this and try to work their meetings to the majority of member’s schedules, if a time still cannot be met many club leaders post newsletters or email members to keep them in the “know”. ii. Many club field trips are open invite so you can bring your family
