The Early College High School (ECHS) model is an innovative concept that allows a predominantly low-income, first-generation minority student population obtain a high school diploma, an associate’s degree, and a baccalaureate degree in six years. The blending of instructional approaches of a traditional high school with those of a two-year college enables ECHS students to reduce the time it takes to earn a baccalaureate degree by two years. As a result, graduates of this model obtain a high school diploma and associate 's degree in four years. The associate degree credits (about 60 hours) are then transferred to a four-year university, where the ECHS student is automatically considered a junior in college, and is able to graduate with a baccalaureate
Warrensburg Missouri, being a college town, is full of many opportunities such as joining Greek life, getting internships, and most impotently getting a college degree. Being the first to attend college in my family, I have been self-motivated to attend class’s everyday on a daily bases and even build time into my schedule to study for quizzes and exams. For the past four months, I have been attending the University of Central Missouri (UCM) in Warrensburg. Therefore, I have learned the highs and lows of being a college student at the university. Being a college student at UCM in Warrensburg has many lows.
This course will show videos on just about everything when it comes to being a better college student. I have learned about reading and writing strategies also. Watching the videos provided on Blackboard helped me because I am mainly a visual learner, for all you visual learners out there these videos will help you too. My most significant learning experience from this course would be learning how to do better on my tests. Future students, just breathe and relax when taking tests, if you fail there is always a way to do better.
Upon beginning my first class at Walden University, it has been difficult to see myself getting through this 8-week course. Furthering my education has been something I have struggled to accomplish for the last 4 years. I almost decided to give up and continue being just a high school teacher. However, being a senior teacher that motivates my students to go above an beyond to reach their goal has pushed me to work hard and start a new journey. Though it is only the beginning of my journey, I can see graduation.
This course honestly helped me enjoy sports a lot more. From the assignments asking me to view sports events as a sociologist to looking at the history of a sport. I gradually am happy that I took this class. It’s insane how much sports can have an affect on people. Some people live there whole life about this sport and as a sociologist I witnessed it myself.
The areas that I struggled the most in were research methods. Everything about the class was difficult for me. I couldn’t grasp the APA format correctly all the way or how too fully write a research paper the way the instructor wanted
Should all high schools in America be replaced by early college high schools? Why there are good reasons for students to go to early college high school, they are not always good reasons. Not all students would excel at early college high schools, school boards would be paying more money, and more students would be more likely to drop out. Early college high schools should be for those students who work hard to achieve the accomplishment of earning an associate degree. Many students joke around and could care less about their education, but at an early college, it is imperative that students care about their school work.
Attending college right after high school or waiting to attend has no right or wrong answer. It would depend on the individual situation. It not only will have to do with some may not being academically prepared to attend college but not having the financial resources necessary to enroll. I went to college right away, my husband worked for about ten years out of high school before deciding to attend college. If you can transition well to a college environment right out of high school, then that might be the path for you.
Today more and more people are going to college. Most people go to college to build their knowledge and to study a specific field that they want to get a job in some day. College is marketed to most people as a creative place where they will learn everything they need to know to get a job and enter the “real world”. As college students right now, don’t get us wrong we do learn many things but, we have found that in many classes we take, we just focus on getting a good grade or a passing grade. At the end of the semester we walk out of some class barely learning a thing because we retain information just long enough to do good on a test or exam and then forget it all together when the class is done.
In my future, I hope to continue the skills I have acquired during this English class. I think that they will be very obliging to me, nevertheless of what I am trying to achieve. In this course, I was encountered with deadlines, instructions, and assignments that I could not work around. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me comprehend that I could definitely take the next step forward in life.

This course peaked my interest and I thought it would broaden my horizons in the world of engineering. Engineering has been my favorite class thus far by allowing me to indulge in and investigate different branches of engineering, solidifying my decision to become an electrical engineer. I focused heavily in all of the projects/tasks I had been given, trying to fabricate innovative ideas to solve problems thrown at my group and me. I found comfort in the organization and orderly conduct due to my over compulsive nature as I delved into my own world, on a train of thought that could not be derailed, where I could fail without resentment and easily look back to see what lead to my failure. I can only fail better until I am successful.
I have taken away many useful strategies and information from the College 101 class I took this summer. This course has given me enough information to help me feel confident that I will be successful in the rest of my highschool experience and my future college experience. This course has given me skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Learning to study properly, avoid procrastination, and take notes correctly has been something that has already helped me tremendously. It has helped me feel less stressed on a day-to-day basis as well as improving my school work quality.
Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.
