Mentoring and coaching look similar and we even sometimes think that they are the same, but they happen to be different. Coaching is more like a task oriented. The focus is on concrete issues, such as managing more effectively and mostly learning how to think strategically. It requires someone known as a coach who is capable of teaching the coachee how to develop these skills. Coaching is for a short period of time, during which a coach is engaged with the coachee for even few sessions. The purpose of coaching is to improve the individual’s performance on the job, and when the coachee successfully acquires the skills; the coach is no longer needed. Most of the time, a successful mentoring relationships last nine months to even a year. Mentoring looks more like a development driven, its goal is to develop the individual for her current job but also for the future. I would say that mentoring absolutely needs a design phase in order to determine its strategic purpose. One can utilize mentoring to develop his/her capability to increase her commitment to an organization and its goals by following the rules and conditions that it may impose; mentoring also help one’s to improve communication within an organization, it is more importantly a great tool to improve the levels of professional success. What I would add to that is with mentoring one is able to have a greater insight into what he or she planning or is about to accomplish, it’s an uplifting tool that helps to develop great skills within individual, skills that one would use in the interest of his/her career success. Williams she was an advisor, a mentor and coach, but she was more like a mentor to me. I spent quiet some time with her. I built a relationship with her. She was like a guide to me in an environment that was new. She helped me through the transition of high school to college, a transition that isn’t easy especially when you are from a French speaking country, where the system is entirely different. By being part of the Accelerated Study in Associate Program, ASAP and the presence of Ms. Williams, I had a smooth transition, but also very challenging as I am a very motivated student who likes being involved. Through her advisement and my self-motivation, I was able to handle class work and clubs, within which I was occupying positions. Ms. Williams was very surprised because as she never expected, I came to handle six classes of heighten credits over this spring of 2015, where I scored A’s and one B+. I feel that her presence, developed a strong relationship between coaching and mentoring to which I owe my success
