What is the chemistry of the atomic bomb & its impacts?
Firstly Plutonium and Uranium are the elements that make up the atomic bomb. Uranium can be found naturally, while Plutonium is a man made element. Plutonium has fifteen different isotopes in it, while Uranium has only two isotopes. Atomic bombs are very devastating, but very cool at the same time, because of their properties. Scientists have known how to make atomic bombs for years and years, but with it came great power.
The fuel for the atomic bomb is the isotope Uranium-235. But the Uranium-235 has to be enriched meaning that there must be more U-235 in it then usual for it to work. Scientists have found a way to speed up the decay of Uranium-235, which can take up 700 million years

Firstly with the atomic bomb ending wars it can save soldiers lives because, they wouldn’t have to fight if the war was over. This happened when the USA dropped “Little Boy” and “Fat Man” (two atomic bombs) on Japan in 1945, which basically took Japan out of the war (WWII). With those two atomic bombs being dropped it saved thousands of American soldier lives but took many Japanese lives. Another pro to the atomic bomb is that if there is a town/city that has very few resources and a struggling economy they could get a new start if an atomic bomb was dropped on that town/city. After the bomb is dropped there’s an economic boom, which is where the government has to rebuild so they focus on farming, jobs and the repopulating of people and animals. This will cause the country to get money fast and rehabilitate quickly. Another pro to the atomic bomb is that if two countries are fighting and about to declare war on each other and one country has atomic bombs and the other doesn’t then, theirs a good chance that fighting will stop so the country doesn’t get devastated by the bomb and have it’s after effects. Also countries won’t try and pick fights with you because they know you have bombs that can really hurt their country. Lastly the atomic bomb can kill people instantly …show more content…
Firstly with a bomb being dropped it would decimate an area so any crops nearby would be gone and all that food would be destroyed/wasted. Next the death toll would be catastrophic because the bomb would put radiation into the air giving people cancer and slowly killing them. People could also die from severe burns and injured from flying debris. Even if you aren’t in the blast radius of the bomb you could still be injured because a cloud of black smoke could be carried into the atmosphere and block sunlight causing a climate change. Next radiation from the bomb can injure the cells in your body, which can lead to death and or mutations to them. Also bone marrow can be damaged and dropped white cell counts, bleeding, destruction of the stomach and anemia can occur. (atomicbombmuseum.org, 14). With radiation mutations of DNA can happen. Like the radiation can mess up your body’s ability to replicate and produce new cells or even make copies of the healthy ones. Black rain can also come from the atomic bomb indirectly because the bomb releases the Uranium and Plutonium into the atmosphere and the smoke and the carbon in the bomb all mix together in the atmosphere and causes rain to fall but the rain is very acidic so it can burn you and cause a great deal of harm to your body. You could also get it in your mouth or by breathing it in and get radiation poisoning. Also you could get
