Communication has been with us since the beginning of time. Humans, animals, and other living organisms communicate. But from the years of the mid 1900’s to the present time we live in, there has some big changes to the telephone and also how we communicate. From delivering important letters or packages by horse or even by a sailboat which could take a few weeks to even 6 months, to delivering them through the “internet” or by plane in a few seconds to a week. Communicating with someone from across the world is only getting easier as time progresses. But comparing communication from the mid 1900’s to now, is mostly to show exactly how technology has advanced. Phones are the most common type of communication used today. It wasn’t as popular as back in the day but letters and telegraphs were still common. Because less people used phones back then, phone numbers were as long as 2-digits. Unlike the phones of the past, todays phones send and receive signals from a radio tower. This means that phones can be taken from place to place and still receive a signal one it is in the range of the radio tower’s radio waves. However, because the phones back then need to be connected to a line in order to receive a signal, it cannot be transported as easily as the modern phone. Another difference is the internet. The internet is the biggest thing that really and truly kept the world connected. Modern phones have the ability to connect to the internet and stay connected with the outside world without having to use a computer. Phones of the past did not have the ability to connect to the internet not even with a computer because the internet and computers plainly did not exist yet.
