The core concepts have been very helpful in understanding how to reach optimal development in school-aged children, which is not an easy task. These core concepts help give some guidance in furthering more research, intervention and prevention programs and provide a resource for professionals. “Taken together, these diverse sources of knowledge advance understanding of the process of child development and enhance the capacity to promote competence, prevent disorders, and correct maladaptive patterns”. An example of that desire is the “why?” stage children go through, where they inquire and want to learn everything. Because they have a desire to learn they do so through their environment as well things we teach them. Children need a stimulating environment to grow in, for young toddlers that may be playing with pots and pans, for older children that could be things like Legos or building blocks. This concept has deepened my understanding of children in the way I teach. The biggest thing I have learned in relation to this concept is becoming a better teacher and taking signals from my children. This meaning taking breaks when needed and taking advantage of interests my children show as a chance to learn something. Strategies that can help foster optimal development in children in regard to this concept are giving children a stimulating environment where the can explore and learn, teaching children age-appropriate material when they show interest in a topic and helping them find the answers to their questions as opposed to giving them the
