This reaction paper is about Chapter 11 by Judith A. Myers-Walls and Larissa V. Frias. Chapter 11 was titled Family, School, and Community. My initial thought of reading the title of the chapter I was not interested in the topic. My lack of interest grew when I realized that the chapter was going to dissect relationships between families, schools, and communities. I believe the current status of what is occurring in America has influenced my feelings about the topic.
Now for more than 160 years of successful help to those in need, the visions are ever growing to fit the needs of families and the community around them. The support for stronger families means help to get them there, supplying legal advice for some, full health services, and special events and programs so everyone will grow together. The start of early childhood programs to working mothers, mothers going to school, and just needing help spread nationwide. All of this came from a controversial social experiment from a handful of
Explain the reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected pattern: The reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected patters is due to them maybe having a disability, emotional influences, physical influences, environmental influences, cultural influences, social influences, learning needs and communication skills. Children with disabilities require a lot more support than those without a disability in order to help them develop their skills and become more independent. Disabilities can affect more than one area of a child’s development depending on what disability they have and what support is available in order to help improve the child’s needs etc. Emotionally children are affected due to them maybe having signs of depression where they are quiet than the rest of the children and they shy away from joining in with different activities and getting involved with other children.
Developmental Review Paper This paper will discuss early literacy development in preschool-age children. As explained in class, literacy refers to the ability to read, write, speak, and listen in a way that allows young children to communicate effectively. Literacy is a children’s capacity to apply numerous methods to learn to read and write and effectively associate and interpret the world in which they live (Wilcox-Herzog, 2015).
SYNOPSIS The following article attached is about how babies have shown signs of faster intellect development when a positive male role model was around. Even though it is beneficial to have both a mother and father present in the upbringing of a child, studies have shown that it is a fatherly figure that help encourage a child’s risk-taking and exploration tendencies to improve cognitive development. Moreover, scientists have studied about 128 fathers, videoing them playing with their 3-month old infants, without toys and then during a book reading. Fathers were given a grade based on their interaction, and scientists took into account factors such as income, age and the fathers’ behavior.
During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.
There are many different facts in a child’s live, especially at a young age, that affects how the child will grow and what they will become. Factors that have a negative effect on child develop can be neglect. If a child is raised in a low-income house hold, the parents tend to have more than one job. When a parent has more than one job they tend to spend less time with the child. This includes reading, talking, and just engaging the child.
“When a community actively supports families, then families in turn will nurture thriving, successful children who are better equipped to transform and strengthen the community” (Maxwell, Claire, personal interview, February 11, 2016). This is an ideal set by Families First, a nonprofit organization that directly address social issues in Atlanta’s own backyard. They know that “26.3% of families with children have an income that falls below the federal poverty line in Georgia”. With the economic state that these families may be in, impacts their children’s cognitive development and ability to learn. This can lead to the children’s social and behavioral problems (Data Center, 2014).
The core concepts have been very helpful in understanding how to reach optimal development in school-aged children, which is not an easy task. These core concepts help give some guidance in furthering more research, intervention and prevention programs and provide a resource for professionals. “Taken together, these diverse sources of knowledge advance understanding of the process of child development and enhance the capacity to promote competence, prevent disorders, and correct maladaptive patterns”. (Shonkoff and Phillips, 2000) “Human development is shaped by a dynamic and continuous interaction between biology and experience”.
Development is a gradual and continuous process. The development of children is greatly influenced through interactions with the family, friends and culture. Children learn from seeing how they are treated, overhearing the interactions of the people around them and observing the things we do all throughout the day. Fully understanding how children grown and change over the course of childhood requires us to look into various child development theories such as psychosocial, cognitive, behaviourist and ecological theories, to name a few.
Many theorists discuss ways in which children are developing. Physically, emotionally, socially and language progressions. Within the early childhood sector, the study of children's development is vividly important as teachers learn to observe the children's individual learning patterns and habits. The practical knowledge of how to develop a child further will assist in utilising the children's skills and holistic development to their fullest potential, however, knowing how to practically aid children in the separate developmental domains is also key as individual kids need more help in some areas than others.
Reaching a milestone in a child’s life is considered a significant event. Milestones is when your baby is where he or she needs to be at a particular developmental age. This means, sitting and crawling when she needs to be, walking and talking when it 's time to do so. It is a thrill for parents to witness a baby’s milestone, whether it be the first time their baby smiles, grabs or hold onto a toy, or rolls over.
Development: Development can be described as the process in which someone grows to become more advanced (Cambridge, 2016). There are various types of development which are important in the growth of a child. These areas are; emotional, social, cognitive and physical development. All these areas of development will be further researched and the various factors affecting these areas of development will be identified. Emotional Development: Emotional development is the growth of a person’s expression, understanding and regulation of emotions (Odle, 2016).
When it comes to the development of children or in other words toddler, it is important to have an understanding as you see your child go through these changes physically and mentally. Even though there are general patterns to how children develop emotionally, socially, and physically, each child is unique and will develop in a special way. Individual differences can be very striking between the first and fourth birthday and are caused by the different experiences that each child has throughout their childhood. Having a stimulating environment for the child is very important, without this type of environment the child will never grow or learn. All experiences that a toddler goes through affecting their social and emotional growth.
Having the right knowledge, skills and experience in understanding how children or young people develop are very important tools for early years practitioners. We must put to mind that each child born to this world is unique; they are born with different characters and their personalities and behaviours are formed and influenced by variety of factors. These factors may affect their ways of interacting to the environment and community or setting in which they live in. In my experience as a child care practitioner most of the time, adults mainly focus on the physical development of a child and so quick to base their conclusion or judgement on the physical aspect.
