Courage doesn't just help you it can also help other people around you too. In Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Mildred D. Taylor uses Cassie Logan as an example of courage, although she has faced many rough and harsh times she has used courage to overcome them. Cassie faces many challenges, but some of the ones that stood out to me were, standing up to the teacher when Little Man did not want his book because of the condition that it was in, standing up for herself at the Mercantile when she was not waited on, and T.J when he was not being so nice to Cassie and the Logan family. Cassie was a very smart and intelligent person. She always wanted to know what was going on because she wanted to know if there was something that she could do to help. Cassie could always come up with a way to help her family, friends, and the land that they lived on. Is anyone in your family so clean that is drives you insane? Little Man was one of those people in Logan family. When Little Manś teacher handed out textbooks he wanted a new one. Little Manś book was all dirty and falling apart. Of course the teacher said no. Cassie and her family had to put up with a kid named T.J. who was never nice to them and annoyed them. T.J. sometimes got into a lot of trouble, but he could always count on the Logans to pull him out. “If I don’t, they’ll hang T.J. This thing’s been coming a long time, baby, and T.J. just happened to be the one foolish enough to trigger it. But, fool or not, I can’t just sit by and let them kill the boy. And if they find Stacey—” (Taylor, 176) Cassie always was concerned about what her family did to protect other people. Cassie’s Papa was going to help T.J. get out of it. To conclude his actions, Papa did stop the men from killing T.J., but not in the same way that he thought. T.J always knew that the Loganś would care for him even though he was not very nice to them.
