When studying the earth and its creation scientifically, it is approached two different ways, operational and historical. A scientist observes what can be seen presently and then taking the knowledge of what has been learned about the present, applies that knowledge to the insight that has been gained through studying of historical documentation. Examples would include the Bible and finding historical evidence such as fossils. The creationist theory offers a different explanation than that of the evolutionist about how the earth was formed. Creationists believe the earth was created by an intelligent being, God, over 6,000 years ago.
Science found its origin in Europe by men who believed in the universe being designed in an orderly fashion and created by God. Scientists such as Galileo, Newton, Bacon and Kepler believed in a recently created earth. For science now to deny the creationist's point of view is to deny scientific history. Since no one witnessed the creation (except God), scientists' study of the formation of the universe are based on assumptions and theories.
