I like how you mention "cultures". I think is essential for the nurse in this situations to be cultural competent and be aware of the cultural values within this family since there are many cultures where taking responsibility for your older relatives is seen as a privilege and an expectation. In these cultures, placing your parents in assisting leaving facilities, nursing homes or even a short term rehab facility could actually be seen as a lack of love and respect for your love ones. In this sense, it is important for the nurse to acknowledge and respect the family’s values and offer alternative assistance and support according to those cultural beliefs.
