Declaration of Independence In High School student agrees with this statement, we have too much homework. All schools have heard this complaint, but I feel they just set it to the side because they don’t take the time to look at the student’s point of view on the subject. People in High School have many different activities after school that could last anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. This makes it very hard for us students to complete some homework assignments, because we have to stay up extremely late to make sure that we get these assignments completed because they can affect your grade exponentially. Students are going to bed extremely late. The recommended amount of sleep a teenager is supposed to get is eight to ten hours of sleep a night, but on average only about 15% of all high school students get that amount of sleep. Because of this many teens are also suffering from sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, insomnia, and sleep apnea, causing kids to get even less sleep. I am a real life example of this, I have a small form of insomnia and I only get a couple of hours of sleep a night, making it very hard for me to focus throughout the day because I am tired. In addition to these two wonderful factors, it give kids the opportunity to plan ahead. Say you have a big test one day or you know that you are going somewhere on vacation a day early, this gives the student an opportunity to do all of their homework the day before it is due so they don’t have to worry about it over their vacation. Now, the other option could be to have a study hall in-between classes giving students a chance to do the homework for that class right after learning it so it stays fresh in their mind making their learning
