Success Everyone hopes to find success in their daily aims or purposes. Success is a favorable outcome of one’s goals or an attempt at a personal aim. The opposite of success is failure, which simply means the complete opposite: to fail at attempts at ones goals or personal aims. For some, success may happen to fall right into their lap, but for others, it may take years of hard work and dedication set towards their personal goals. The outlook or perception of a successful individual in today’s society compared to the type of society that existed a hundred years ago will be vastly different. Success can come to a person in many different ways. Some obtain it through long late nights of hard work and dedication, and some may have just happened to have scratched of the right lottery ticket. For instance, Ianthe Fullagar was only eighteen years old whenever she won a lottery that came to the total of $8.7 million dollars. Just two years later Fullagar was named the 27th wealthiest person in the U.K., after using her lottery winnings to make wise investments increasing her Net Worth. One in five Americans believes that monetary wealth is what defines success. Dr. Michael Plater, President of Strayer University, suggest that Americans are starting to look at their individual situations and priorities, and starting to create new definitions of what success is to them because of the economic situation that everyone has felt in the past years. Many Americans are starting to focus more on their well being instead of going off of the usual definition that you find whenever you look up the word success. Rather than a hundred years ago, the meaning of success to one may be someone who is very wealthy, or someone who may own a lot of land or even a business.
