According to dictionary.com, freedom means “political or national independents”, but in reality it means much more than that. During the revolutionary war, four thousand four hundred and thirty-five lives were lost in order to gain independence and freedom for all Americans. I believe that freedom means that people can express themselves however they want and that they can make decisions for themselves. I think that this is true because people can choose their religion, have the freedom of speech, and can stand up for what they believe is right. Freedom of religion was part of the First Amendment to the Declaration of Independence, which means that people are able to choose their religion and can freely worship.
For example, although we have right to speech, but we can't say negative things to the other people that can hurt their feelings. Many Americans today take the freedoms given in the Constitution for granted. It’s easy to forget how many others around the world don’t have “inalienable rights” given; such as the freedom of religion. Freedom is America's honor, and honor comes with obligations and we have the obligation to use our freedom wisely. We can accept or reject the obligations, but we must choose well. I'm a patriot for country because of the freedoms that I have. In American today, the people view their rights as one of the utmost important aspects of their lives. For example, they almost demand their freedom to worship as they choose. Although it is the people 's right to do this at times, it appears to be a bullying attitude. Our rights must suit our belief systems and cannot be varied away from them, or it would be against our rights. The people view freedom in America, as freedom of choice and not simply freedom as the Colonists did.
In the early days of the United States of America, we had no freedom. The pilgrims came to America to be free from British law. In England, they had no right to choose how they were ruled.
