Besides Thoreau’s, famous Author Edgar Allan Poe’s life experience is also evidently significant to his work. Poe, who is known for his poems and short stories, faced many hardships in his life. At the age of three, he was separated from his siblings by the death of his parents (Poe Museum). His troubles continued on from there- with poverty, education, and family issues. Many of his well-known classics, such as “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven” include elements of evil and helplessness, which relatively touch upon his dark life experiences (Poe Museum). Another famous poem that sprang from actual people in his life is “To My Mother.” In the text Friends and Enemies: Women in the Life of Edgar Allan Poe, author Richard P. Benton stated
