Effective leadership is more than following a set of guidelines and direction. Effective leadership is a style, it requires practice, planning, collaboration, and most important vision of an individuals’ capabilities. In order to be a great leader one should know the strengths and weaknesses of their capabilities, that is important when planning and/or collaborating with a team/ project. This week readings gave me a better understanding of my capabilities and the sources I received through my educational journey of becoming the leader I am today. Reflecting on my values and morals is effective in understanding the qualities I possess and how I can use them in organizing new ideas to become more efficient.

These instructors identify these themes in correlation to their moral practice in the higher education field. As an effective instructor those five themes need to be conducted in order to provide effective teaching to students. As an undergraduate, I was able to have instructor’s display opportunities that would help build my foundation of becoming an effective student leader.
I was able to create spaces for students to discuss challenges they faced academically and personally. The article titled “A College’s Savior Steps Down, Now What” by Scott Carlson examines instructors transition from a research institution to a small liberal arts college. The instructors shared their challenges through their transitions and how their leadership abilities assisted during their tough transition. Bryan Wagner, an assistant professor shared his compared his experience with his students from an ivy league college to an unknown college. In the article he shared the following”: “In the past, I had worked with students who were incredibly motivated,” he says, but at D&E, he has had to work harder to engage inspire, and help students make connections” (p.5). An administrator described his importance of relationships, “The underlying thing for me is relationships—hardly anything important happens that doesn’t have to do with relationships.” (p.1).I totally agree with this statement, I was able to take on leadership roles and get references because of the relationships I build with faculty, peers, and administrators. These Leadership roles help establish the individual I am today. Establishing relationships ultimately assist in building a great reputation. Mr. Smith discuss the fundamental strengths that small colleges possess, he states “it comes down to whether you are going to look at your future base entirely upon your past or what others are doing, or whether you are going to look at the fundamentals, the principles, the basics, and have the discipline to stay with those” (p.2).
