She took definition as her province and challenged the existing definitions of poetry and the poet’s work. Dickinson's style of poetry heavily focuses on the lyrics and generally defined as short poems with a single speaker. She admired and influenced the poetry of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browing and William Blake. Her life was pretty rough since, by the 1860s, Dickinson lived in a isolation from the rest of the outside world. She had a talent for maintaining her physical self and many correspondences.
