Throughout my course in English 1005A, I learned to understand the most effective ways of becoming an excellent writer. Personally, I came to the realization that it takes hard-work and effort to write effectively as a college student, that of which includes my peer views. What my partner commented on my essay, I quickly understood what I had done wrong in my freewriting and outlining processes, such included a lack of context and background to summarize my points. As a result, I could pinpoint the various mistakes in my essay that allowed me to express further content towards my audience. The drafts that I have done to put forth this final portfolio demonstrates my improvement.
In my portfolio, I learned to incorporate many sources that I used to support claims that I could not have discussed without understanding and applying those critical reading responses. In the book, Writing Communities, by Stephen Parks, the author mentions the difference between an organic and traditional intellectual. Had I not read the text, I would not have been able to address certain points in my essay. Looking back at my first essay, I could immediately tell the major improvements that of which are associated in my current drafts. For example, I applied many sources and contextual concepts in my writing that demonstrated effective growth in my writing. Moreover, doing weekly critical reading responses and daily free writes became beneficial towards practicing these writing skills, therefore, had allowed me to incorporate them in my writing.
