In my experience with this English 49 class, I have learned a lot about how to write an argumentative essay. Before completing this class, writing only seemed to me as a requirement to succeed in college. However, this class has taught me that writing is a way of communication that is essential to various aspects of life. The knowledge of writing that I’ve learned from this class directly influences my status in both my life as a student and in my future career as a police officer. English 49 has given me the skills to write the different types of styles of writing an argumentative essay and how to establish my credibility to prove my statement. The reason that these writing assignments show the improvement I have made over the semester is because at the start of the semester I was unable to effectively support my statement but in these writing assignments I proved that I possess great skills of effectively conveying my statement with the use of evidence.
Through this semester I have seen a significant increase in how much better I write. At the beginning of the semester I was unable to properly use evidence, but now I have demonstrated the proper use of using a variety of thoughtful evidence to support my statement. I was not effective of including evidence in my essays before this class. At the beginning of the semester I would to use my critical thinking skills to form a strong support. As a result, my argument was less than convincing. To fix this, I added quotes to prove my claims. From this reflection I have learned that unless I am an expert in the field it does not mean that I cannot create credibility in my writings. This class has taught me that I can use an expert’s credibility to establish my own. By using experts to reinforce my findings, my statements can be reliable.
