Animal testing has many beneficial factors to it, they can test medical treatments, see how toxic the medications are, and to test the safety of the product before selling it to humans. I feel that animal testing is very important to the safety of people. Without testing potential drugs on animals we would not be sure what possible side effects a drug could cause if given to people. Unfortunately there are no computer models that can predict how animals or people will react when given a drug so animal testing is a necessity. By working with animals, I feel confident that when my family or friends take a drug, I know it is safe because of the extensive testing that was done to ensure its safety. Without animals, this would not be possible. …show more content…
Most studies require that scientists collect hours of pretest data followed by administration of the control/placebo and different dose levels of the drug. In laboratories, they test potential drug candidates for all types of diseases. Scientists have tested potential drugs for Alzheimer’s, diabetes, AIDS, cardiovascular disease and cancer. The responsibility of these labs is to test potential drugs for safety, and is not testing specifically if it will fight cancer or stop cardiovascular disease, etc., but to ensure that it is safe to move into clinical trials. By conducting studies on animals these labs are confident if this potential drug goes to clinical trials it will not cause a cardiovascular, respiratory or central nervous system event that could affect someone quality of life (Jude Ferraro). Cosmetic: Using animal testing in the development of cosmetics may involve testing either a finished product or the individual ingredients of a finished product on animals, often rabbits, but also mice, rats, and others. In some cases, the products or ingredients are applied to the mucous membranes of the animal, including eyes, nose, and mouth, to determine whether they cause allergic or other reactions. Cosmetic animal testing is actually banned in the European Union, India, Israel, and Norway for animal
