Families look different to everyone. Some have only one parent, some have a grandparent, some have 2 mothers, some have 2 fathers, and some are foster homes. The point is, a family should be a safe place to grow up in. Same sex couples have the right to adopt children, but they are often overlooked in the adoption process. Same sex couples should be able to adopt children because they have equal rights just like everyone else, kids needs families, and it shows more diversity to the child.
Same sex couples should be able to adopt children because they have the same rights as a heterosexual couple. People think that since it’s either a mom and a mom or a dad and a dad that the child will not be cared for the right way or it’s just not right. People need to stop thinking about themselves and think about the children that need a home. Many children are put in foster homes until they are able to be adopted. The reason these children are put in foster homes is because they need a safe and caring environment. The children who come into these foster homes have dealt with abuse or neglect, a lack of family support, and a parent that has a mental illness (“Why Do Children Need Safe Homes?”). There are about 500,000 children that are in the foster care system right now, and there’s around 100,000 children who need to be adopted (“Overview of Lesbian and Gay Parenting, Adoption and Foster Care”). There aren’t enough families that fit what people are looking for. They don’t really except same-sex couples to adopt because they are afraid the children won’t be living in a good home. You may realize now how many need a loving family to adopt them, even if it is a same-sex couple adopting a child. They will get treated the same and given the same opportunities as any other child would that’s in a family with a mom and
