Legalization vs. Non-Legalization The idea of marijuana being legal in the United States of America has been a hot topic of conversation for some time now. Not only have 10 states made it legal but several other states such as Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and several other states have made the use of Medical Marijuana to be used. But the argument that is presented is, why legalize such a drug if we as America are trying to stop the drug trade from continuing? I feel that marijuana should be legalized despite all of the controversy surrounding it. There are so many positive aspects to this drug that could help people and even our economy. A large number of people who are sentenced time in jail or are incarcerated for a short period of time are put there due to having the possession of marijuana. So to minimize this from consentingly occurring why not just make it legal and have restrictions as to how much you are allowed to have on hand with you and who you are able to sell to. In an article called Marijuana legalization: Research review on crime and impaired driving they say, “advocates for legalization argue it will undercut the black market, which is associated with criminals and violent elements”. I feel that the crime rate drops because there is no need any longer to try and smuggle or sell marijuana. If you would like to sell marijuana the next steps would be to open up your own dispensary, and intern offers more jobs to the community. If the United States is able to cut out drug trafficking significantly that should be all the more reason to want to have it legalized. Others will argue that it will still be sold on the black market, but if you look at it from a different point of view alcohol and other over the counter drugs that are legal get sold illegally every
