Who should we blame for the obesity problem in America?
I believe consumers are to blame for obesity because every day Americans make their own decision to buy and consume products that contribute to their obesity. America was once a place where family members would come together to eat a home cooked meal, but that was quickly phased out of our society as fast food places swept into our cities and obesity started an incline. With so many different food options today, I believe that letting yourself become obese is a choice. Every day, hardworking Americans make choices on what they should eat, whether it be fast food, TV dinners, sugar filled drinks, or vending machine snacks, a large amount of Americans are eating food that is high in calories, high in sugar, high in …show more content…

I blah blah McDonalds added healthier food to their menu, but obesity has actually gotten worst. This is why I believe it is a choice because if people started choosing to boycott McDonalds in masses they would be forced to either go out of business or change their food to something with high nutrition and fewer in calories. This foolish and irresponsible fallacy has given many Americans a convenient scapegoat for the fall of their health and lifestyle, and has caused a number of social repercussions. The principal consequence is an active dissociation of cause and effect in the consumer. It's in the hands of the individual to take control of their personal diet, health, and lifestyle. A number of factors come into play when looking at the root causes of obesity, but the biggest influence is diet and activity. According to Dr. Keith Ablow on foxnews.com, a psychiatrist and member of the Fox News Medical A-Team, “The solution to obesity is to empower the individual to make choices that won’t lead to weight gain.” I believe that obesity is a choice.
